Help Elect Tom Emmer to Congress here: http://emmerforcongress.com/ (Primary: August 12, 2014)
I’m humbled to accept the #mngop endorsement for #mn06. I want to thank all the delegates and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make the Sixth such a great place in our state. I’m looking forward to working with each one you!! —Tom Emmer
From Pioneer Press:
“We are in this together,” he told delegates after garnering about three-quarters of the votes on the first ballot. The election is about more than keeping the district in Republican hands, Emmer said. “This is about starting to move Minnesota and this country in the right direction, in our direction.”
Bachmann spoke Friday night and mingled with delegates at an event held to honor her service. She also spoke to the convention Saturday and announced the endorsement results. She said Emmer has “all the right values.”
Emmer, a lawyer from Delano who served three terms in the state House, lost the governor’s race to Democrat Mark Dayton four years ago by less than half a percentage point after a recount. He polled strongly in the 6th District in that race, getting 53 percent of the votes.
Throughout his political career, Emmer has championed traditional Republican principles of reducing the size and scope of government, lowering taxes and more individual freedom and responsibility.
He and his wife, Jacquie, have six sons and a daughter.
Emmer was the first Republican to announce a run for Bachmann’s seat. He won a party straw poll in February and has been leading in fundraising. He gave up his slot as co-host of a daily radio show in the summer shortly after declaring for the seat.
