Congressman Scott Garrett (R-NJ 5)
Rep. Scott Garrett is a very strong conservative from New Jersey who has remained a consistent conservative since he took office in 2003. Since then, he has voted against the Ryan-Murray Budget, CISPA, VAWA, the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act due to state’s rights issues, supported spending cuts to all departments, opposed the recent $1 billion Ukraine package because he knows we do not have this money, the Hurricane Katrina funding package, and voted against both the 2008 and 2014 Farm Bill Conference Reports. Throughout the years, Rep. Garrett has remained consistently pro-life, has opposed the majority of debt ceiling increases, and voted against the recent FY 2014 Omnibus Bill. He supported the Amash NSA limitation amendment, opposed the Budget Control Act of 2011(raised the debt ceiling for cuts many years later), opposed reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, and voted against MAP-21 (a wasteful transportation bill). He is a rock-solid conservative.
Rep. Scott Garrett has been a member of both the past Liberty Caucus (headed by Rep. Ron Paul) and the new Liberty Caucus (now led by Rep. Justin Amash). He has also been a strong conservative leader in the Republican Study Committee, proposing a budget that will balance in 5 years or less (not like the Ryan Budget that takes 10 years or even worst the Obama Budget which never balances).
Rep. Scott Garrett has also been a strong leader in fighting against the Surrender Caucus in the GOP establishment:
Earlier this week, Congressman Tom Cole (R-OK) proposed a grand idea. Republicans should muster up the moxie to go and….only extend the Bush tax cuts for those earning less than 250k. In other words, he suggested that we should give Obama everything he wants and allow Democrats to divide up the Bush taxes – ones in which they worked a decade to block. It’s heartening to see that conservatives in the House are rejecting his proposal: A senior House conservative, Rep. Scott Garrett (N.J.), called Cole’s suggestion “absurd.”
In 2013, Rep. Scott Garrett received a very strong 75% on LLPH’s scorecard compared to his fellow GOP New Jersey members who scored 15%, 5%, 25%, 25%, and 15%. The average of the New Jersey GOP delegation was a 27%. As you can see, Rep. Scott Garrett is a very strong congressman and leader in the United States House of Representatives.
LLPH is honored to name Rep. Scott Garrett of New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District as a General of our Liberty Congress Team and strongly endorse his re-election in the 2014 midterm elections.
