LLPH is honored to officially name Congressman Michael “Mick” Mulvaney of South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District a Liberty Commander in our Liberty Congress Team and re-endorse him for the 2014 midterm elections.
Rep. Mick Mulvaney is awesome. Elected in 2010, Rep. Mulvaney has been one of the few to stay true to the Tea Party Principles he was elected to. He has voted for almost every spending cut amendment that he has had the opportunity to vote for; he was the lead sponsor of an amendment to stop $3.5 billion from going to the Department of Defense when the generals of our military said they do not need the money. He was also a sponsor of the Amash NSA limitation amendment, showing you his strong respect for our civil liberties. Furthermore, Rep. Mulvaney has voted against wasteful spending bills from the pork-filled Sandy funding bill to the hospital loan grants that the government should not be giving away to millions of dollars in foreign aid. He has repeatedly opposed bloated budgets (like the Ryan-Murray Budget) and debt ceiling increases.
Rep. Mulvaney has fought against the GOP leadership in so many ways. He abstained from voting for Speaker Boehner, helping to almost overthrow Speaker Boehner and Company. He has been a vocal opponent of his own leadership’s failure to uphold their promises and is holding their feet to the fire. An example is when the GOP leadership decided to pass an expensive doc fix bill by voice vote in secret:
“Bullshit,” said a visibly annoyed Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) as he emerged from the floor following the Ukraine vote. When Mulvaney was asked to comment about the upcoming GOP budget, he replied: “I can’t talk about the budget because I’m so pissed about the [doc fix].”
