LLPH Update for January-April 2013 Part 1: Jim Demint Senate Honor Roll/Commendations

This is update #2 of a series of 5 updates, updating you on how Congress has been going these past 4 months. Today’s focus is on the United States Senate. And the honor roll and commendation list have both been named in honor of former Senator Jim Demint.

Former Senator Jim Demint was a senator of South Carolina, serving from 2005 to 2013 when he resigned to become the President of the Heritage Foundation. During his tenure, Senator Demint began as a quiet legislator, but he soon rose to prominence as he realized that both parties: Republicans and Democrats were part of the problem. Leading the fight against earmarks, bailouts, and debt ceiling increases, he not only irriated the Democrats but he angrered his own leadership. But he knew this was not enough and he knew that the only way to change Washington was to change who was sent there. Several of the Senators who are on the Honor Roll for January-April 2013 were elected with the help of Senator Demint and today, the Republican Caucus is more conservative because of his works. For these reasons, we have named the Honor Roll in honor of Senator Demint. The list of commendations has also been named in his honor.
