Washington, DC, March 15, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oklahoma Congressman Jim Bridenstine voted for fiscal responsibility in voting against the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills Act (SKILLS Act) today. HR 803 seeks to consolidate numerous job training programs, although the CBO projects that spending will actually increase.
The bill authorized $32 billion in mandatory spending for 2014 through 2022 plus annual appropriations for discretionary programs projected at $7.2 billion in 2014. Mandatory programs spending is indexed to the Consumer Price Index, and the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected an increase of over 25% by 2022.
“Congress continues to vote to increase spending rather than facing the fact that the government has a spending problem. We cannot move toward a balanced budget by increasing spending at every opportunity.”
