Debt Ceiling Increase 1: Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN 6) Fights for Next Generation!

Decoder: Rep. Michele Bachmann At The “Win Back Washington” Rally ...

LLPH thanks Rep. Bachmann for voting against increasing the debt ceiling that did not contain any spending cuts. We applaud her for her vote and hope that she will continue her fight for fiscal sanity.

Here’s her statement:

Washington — Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement after voting against increasing the debt ceiling.

“The Senate’s failure to pass a budget in the last four years is a stunning failure of leadership and governing. Passing a budget is the most basic duty of Congress, and the Senate continues to blatantly disregard this responsibility. The Senate should be held accountable for this negligence.

“However, giving the President four months of unlimited borrowing authority without a cap on spending is something I cannot support. Adding to the debt burden of future generations will only exacerbate the problem. Reckless borrowing and spending has left the U.S. with downgraded credit, impending galloping inflation, and a nearly $16.5 trillion national debt. The days of fantasy economics are inevitably coming to a dreadful end.

“We are at a point where we do not have a choice: for the sake of our children and grandchildren we have to stop spending more money than we take in.”

The next generation does not need billions more in debt. While some might claim conservatives are holding the debt ceiling “hostage”, the problem is that every time the debt ceiling has been increased, no one ever returns to talk about spending cuts. When are we going to cut spending? From now on, LLPH will score a vote against every legislation that increases the debt without spending cuts…PERIOD!
